Emmanuel Macron announces the closure of schools

During his speech, the President of the Republic announced the closure of schools and simultaneous holidays from April 12 for the three zones.

Parents and teachers are fixed. Wednesday March 31, during a speech, Emmanuel Macron announced the closure of schools for three weeks. A way to stem the covid-19 pandemic which continues to rage according to him. “We have entered a new race of speed. The spread across Europe of a new form of virus. No metropolitan area is spared. The virus is more contagious and more deadly (…) 44% of patients in intensive care are under 65 ”, first explained the President of the Republic.

The Head of State then justified the choice to have kept the schools open since the start of the school year. “No one can tell the effects of a too long shutdown. The education of our children is not negotiable. School is not negotiable ”, did he declare. Before announcing the closure of nurseries, nursery and primary schools, colleges and high schools, from next week.

Clearly, from April 5, lessons must be provided at home for all students. However, from April 12, children will be on vacation for two weeks. A period of simultaneous holidays for the three zones. On April 26, nursery and primary school students will be able to return to schools. On the other hand, for middle and high school students, the return to class will take place on May 3. They will therefore have to take distance courses between April 26 and May 3.

The president, however, clarified that schools would remain open for children of caregivers and other priority professions, as well as for children with disabilities. “I want to thank all the teachers and all the staff who make it possible to welcome our children”, concluded the president. Note that parents who cannot telework will be able to benefit from a work stoppage to look after the children.
