Emmanuel Macron calls for a “scientific”, “not political” decision

The return to the hospital of caregivers not vaccinated against Covid-19 must be a decision “scientifically established”, “not a political choice”, estimated, Friday, November 25, Emmanuel Macron.

“If the scientists, the doctors, the caregivers tell us that it is desirable from a scientific point of view to reintegrate these caregivers, the government must do it”declared the Head of State, during a trip to Dijon.

The day before, a bill tabled by the deputies La France insoumise to reintegrate unvaccinated members of the health personnel had not been able to be voted on in the Assembly, and the opposition had lambasted the “manoeuvres” of the presidential camp to slow down the debates. “You’re going to shut up! »notably launched the deputy for Guadeloupe Olivier Serva (Liberties, independents, overseas and territories group) to the address of Renaissance deputies who questioned him during his speech, which caused a suspension of the session.

Mathilde Panot, president of the La France insoumise group in the National Assembly, during the debate on the reintegration of unvaccinated members of the nursing staff, November 24, 2022.

The question has been controversial since the vaccination obligation for health personnel was put in place in September 2021. “At a time when the circulation of the virus is on the rise again, when there is an epidemic of bronchiolitis and the flu, it is serious to reintegrate unvaccinated personnel”estimated Franck Riester, minister in charge of relations with Parliament, on France Inter.

Proponents of reintegration argue that Covid-19 vaccines have lost much of their effectiveness against transmission of the disease, although they remain protective on an individual level against severe forms. They also consider it absurd to prevent caregivers from exercising their activity in a context of lack of staff, although the proportion of people suspended is extremely small in hospitals.
