Emmanuel Macron deplores the refusal of “government parties to participate” in a coalition

Emmanuel Macron is bitter. The President of the Republic regretted this Monday the refusal of the “parties of government” to participate in “any form of coalition”, when launching the first post-reshuffle Council of Ministers. The president as well as the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, had each consulted the different political forces represented in the National Assembly, before constituting this new government on Monday.

The Head of State underlined the “exceptional period” that the new government must face, “the war that has returned to European soil which first strikes Ukraine but (which) is at the heart of profound consequences for our societies, for the European project, for our economy, the lives of our compatriots”.

“Exceptional period in terms of the transitions that we have to live (…) also taking into account the political situation of the country”, he added, citing the “ecological challenge” and the “major demographic transitions “. “This imposes on the government a lot of voluntarism, ambition, because our country needs reforms, transformation (…) It also needs a spirit of responsibility to build demanding compromises”, he said. -He insists.

“Profoundly transforming collective action”

“You will have to hold on in this context of war which profoundly changes many things”, he also underlined, considering that “this has not been sufficiently integrated into the French public debate”. The president insisted on the need to “deeply transform collective action”, to rethink “in depth many of our policies” with “local elected officials, all of our administrations, partners such as companies, associations, citizens”, and to carry out the reforms with “sustainable” public deficits.

“Building the independence of the country and progress for our compatriots (…), that supposes knowing how to invest, transform, build. But the independence of the country and progress are only rarely financed by unfinanced deficits, in any case unsustainable, and the real independence of the country is not achieved without profound transformation and a lot of requirement”, he further warned.
