Words that did not leave Emmanuel Macron indifferent. Suffering from pharyngeal cancer and exhausted by the disease, Françoise Hardy questioned the President of the Republic about the end of life. In a letter published in La Tribune Sunday, the 80-year-old singer asked the Head of State to relaunch the debate on euthanasia in order to allow sick people to have recourse to it. “As you know, a large majority of people want the legalization of euthanasia. We are all counting on your empathy and hope that you will allow the very sick and hopeless French people to get better, to stop their suffering when they know that there is no longer any relief possible”, wrote the ex-partner of Jacques Dutronc. A cry from the heart that “upset” the tenant of the Élysée Palace.
In a joint interview with The cross and to Release unveiled this Sunday March 10, in which he announced a bill in April for a “assisted dying” below “strict conditions”Emmanuel Macron returned to the letter sent to him by Thomas Dutronc’s mother and those of many people in favor of euthanasia. “I received many letters including that of Françoise Hardy, which touched me a lot. Françoise Hardy: her strong words on the end of life
A few days before the publication of this letter, Françoise Hardy had engaged in Paris Match at the end of life. The singer confided without taboo about her illness and its effects. “Since my last and recent radiotherapy, I have been feeling bad because my right eye sees everything very blurry and is painful. My nostril on the same side is blocked all the time. My mouth and the back of my throat are even more dry. It’s a nightmare”detailed the artist, going so far as to wonder if she was “well cared for”.
At the question “What can we wish for you?” which was asked by our colleagues, the ex-wife of Jacques Dutronc replied: “To leave soon and quicklywithout too big challenges, such as the impossibility of breathing”, she explained. Before adding: “Leave to the other dimension as soon, as quickly and as painlessly as possible.” A fight against cancer which seems to be more and more trying for Françoise Hardy…
