Guillaume Gomez and his teams cooked for Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, François Hollande and Emmanuel Macron. A great adventure now over. The chef, who was at the head of the kitchen of the Élysée for 25 long years, announced Wednesday February 23, 2021 on Instagram that he was leaving his post. In the caption of a photo montage which shows him alongside the various heads of state for whom he worked, the youngest winner of the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France, wrote a very long farewell text. Guillaume Gomez talks about his incredible career and his experience in the presidential palace: "25 years serving more than two million meals for four Presidents and the 800 agents who work within the Presidency. 25 years carrying to the highest levels, with passion, French excellence, its traditions, its art of living". Proud to have contributed in his own way to the influence of France and aware of the shock wave his departure was going to cause, the chef wanted to explain his choice. "after careful consideration".
In recent years spent at "feed back information and requests" which was made to him as "the main contact" producers, other cooks and artisans, allowed him to discover a new passion: "This situation thus revealed to me a desire to devote myself fully to this possibility of having a voice and convinced me to ask the President to continue with him, but in a different way, "he said.
Guillaume Gomez's new functions
The 42-year-old chef has in fact decided to take on new functions, still at the Elysee Palace, but as "personal representative of the President of the Republic to the actors and networks of gastronomy and food". A new role which is close to his heart and which will allow him to continue to serve his country in a different way, from the beginning of March. The replacement for the chef of Spanish origin has not yet been found. According to The Express, Guillaume Gomez's two assistants will therefore take over until a new cook is appointed.
