Emmanuel Macron traveling to Algeria from August 25 to 27, says the Elysée

PARIS (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron will go to Algiers from Thursday August 25 to Saturday August 27 to relaunch diplomatic relations between France and Algeria, the Elysée announced on Saturday.

The French president, who responds to the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune, made a single visit to Algeria, at the start of his first presidential term in December 2017.

“This trip (…) will contribute to deepening the bilateral relationship looking to the future for the benefit of the populations of the two countries, to strengthen Franco-Algerian cooperation in the face of regional issues and to continue the work of healing memories”, said the Elysée in a press release.

The two heads of state spoke on the phone on Saturday, indicates the French presidency, specifying that Emmanuel Macron presented his condolences to Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the dozens of victims of the forest fires which ravaged Algeria in recent days.

“The Head of State informed his counterpart of France’s availability to provide Algeria with land and air resources to deal with it,” adds the Elysée.
