Emmanuel Macron begins a three-day visit to Marseille on Monday, almost two years after the launch of his “Marseille en grand” plan. The themes of housing, education or even health will be studied by the Head of State. The President also devotes his first day to the theme of security.

Since his arrival at the Élysée, Emmanuel Macron has shown a very strong interest in Marseille, a city which he also designates as his city of hearts. The president, accompanied by an armada of ministers, is back on Monday in the Marseille city, almost two years after the launch of his “Marseille en grand” plan, a vast project to help the inhabitants. Security, housing, education and health: the president will explore several themes during this three-day visit, punctuated by discussions with elected officials, but also the population.

First day on the theme of security

Marseille is the laboratory of what constitutes Emmanuel Macron’s vision of public policies, according to his entourage. The president therefore wants to observe on the ground the progress of the Marseille plan on a large scale, endowed with 5 billion euros, which he launched in September 2021. But he also wants to give new impetus to this vast operation intended to improve public services.

After being welcomed at City Hall by Mayor Benoît Payan at 11:15 a.m., Emmanuel Macron will devote his first day in Marseille to the theme of security. He will first meet members of the local judicial police before visiting the construction site of the Baumettes prison, where more than 700 new places are in the process of being built.

The president will then host a discussion with women who have lost a child in settling of accounts linked to drug trafficking, which has killed 23 people in Marseille since the beginning of the year. Emmanuel Macron should finally go to a popular district of the city for a debate with inhabitants.
