Emmanuel Macron-Xi Jinping meeting: the gifts offered by the French president to his Chinese counterpart

On the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to France, his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron wanted to offer him gifts symbolizing French art, as is traditional. Books by Victor Hugo or a carafe of cognac stamped “Louis XIII” are part of the list.

Here is a traditional way of highlighting the excellence of your country. In the middle of a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Paris, and on the eve of a scheduled visit to La Mongie, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, Emmanuel Macron presented gifts to his counterpart this Monday. The latter, carefully selected, symbolize French know-how.

Books by Victor Hugo, cognac…

According to a press release sent by the Élysée services, the art glassworks of Amboise are honored, with a vase flattened on two sides signed by Pierre Gallou. The presidency also presented works by Victor Hugo: ContemplationsAnd Notre Dame de Paris, translated into Chinese. Another very special work appears in the list of gifts, the first French-Chinese dictionary, published in 1742.

Then, Emmanuel Macron gives a good place to French luxury, with a bottle of Hennessy XO cognac, and a carafe of “Louis XIII” cognac, from the house of Rémy Martin. As a nod to his Chinese counterpart, the Head of State also decided to give him a 75 cl Baijiu bottle: Moutai Flying Fairy.
