Emmy Awards 2020: The prizes are awarded virtually

The producers of the Emmy Awards and moderator Jimmy Kimmel have announced a virtual ceremony in a letter to the nominees.

The nominations for this year's Emmy Awards were announced via livestream on Tuesday (July 28). The executive producers of the award, which is due to take place on September 20, 2020, have now announced that the ceremony will take place virtually due to the corona pandemic. In a letter, those responsible for the award, including moderator Jimmy Kimmel (52), addressed the nominees: "As you probably suspected, we will not ask you to come to the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 20" , says the letter, which is available to the US industry portal "Variety".

Not a glamorous red carpet

It will also be the biggest event in the TV business this year – "only we will come to you," the producers explain. With a "first class team of technicians, producers and authors" one would ensure that the nominees could be filmed in their home or a place of their choice. It is not yet clear which elements will be shown live at the end or whether the winners will be informed in advance. The US broadcaster ABC, which broadcasts the award, and the Television Academy are currently still in the planning.

Actresses Leslie Jones (52), Josh Gad (39), Tatiana Maslany (34) and Laverne Cox (48) announced the nominations for the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards via live stream on Tuesday. The series "Watchmen" and "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" are ahead.
