Emotional farewell for Peretz
Maccabi agrees to transfer goalkeeper to Bayern Munich

The search for another goalkeeper is over: FC Bayern will most likely sign Daniel Peretz. On Friday he is to complete the medical check-up. The young Israeli comes as a substitute for Manuel Neuer’s substitute Sven Ulreich.

Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv has approved the transfer of goalkeeper Daniel Peretz to Bayern Munich. The club announced this on its website after the 4-1 win in the first leg of the playoff in the Conference League against NK Celje. “In the coming days we will probably say goodbye to Daniel Peretz, our goalkeeper and dear friend. We wish him every success. (…) We are sad that Daniel is leaving, but we are also proud in many ways and wish Good luck to him and his new club, Bayern Munich, for the coming years,” Maccabi club boss Mitchell Goldhar was quoted as saying on the club’s website.

The 23-year-old Peretz, who was used against Celje and still has to complete the medical check, should cost a base fee of around five million and receive a five-year contract in Munich. The goalkeeper would initially be number two behind Sven Ulreich (35), who is currently deputizing for captain Manuel Neuer in the Bayern goal, and is seen as the man of the future. He should learn from Neuer and Ulreich.

After breaking his leg more than eight months ago, the 37-year-old international goalkeeper is in the last phase of his individual training. Coach Thomas Tuchel said at the start of the Bundesliga in Bremen that Neuer “can start team training in two or three weeks. And then it’ll be quick anyway.”

Lothar Matthäus is irritated

In recent weeks, numerous goalkeepers such as Stefan Ortega (Manchester City), David de Gea (without a club), kepa Arrizabalaga (now Reald Madrid), David Raya (now at FC Arsenal) or Yassine Bounou (now at Al-Hilal) have been traded at FC Bayern as a replacement for Neuer. Then the U-turn given the captain’s progress. So “only” a representative was needed for Ulreich.

As far as the treatment of the goalkeeper position is concerned, not only record national player Lothar Matthäus was irritated recently. “I wonder,” he said at a sponsorship event from interwetten.de, “why didn’t they raise this young goalkeeper themselves.” Yes why? Alexander Nübel once came to Munich with the prospect of becoming Neuer’s successor. They have now loaned him to VfB Stuttgart. And other, once highly praised talents are no longer there.

Is it due to a lack of trust? Or a wrong assessment? In any case, Ron-Thorben Hoffmann now plays for Eintracht Braunschweig, Christian Früchtl has now landed at Austria Vienna after the accidental detour to 1. FC Nürnberg. And their homegrown Johannes Schick loaned out the Munich team to the third division club Preußen Münster before the season. Yann Sommer, in turn, was allowed to switch to Inter Milan.
