Employee search – social markets lack the volunteers

The price increases are taking their toll: the demand in the welfare markets has skyrocketed in the city and state of Salzburg. But in many places there is a shortage of volunteers.

The enormous price explosion is putting more and more people in Salzburg in financial distress! This is exactly what you can see these days, for example, in the social market Soma in Salzburg-Itzling: Elisabeth Dank, who is on the board of the association, is seeing up to 40 percent more customers. However, the people of Salzburg are desperately looking for volunteers – around 70 are currently working employees, most of whom are already retired. “The turnover is high,” says Dank. This is due to the fact that retirees often have to go to rehabilitation. But business continues straight away – from picking up the goods to selling them. “We pay the drivers the official mileage allowance,” says Dank. The situation is similar with the Vinzi bus. The association is currently looking feverishly for drivers – the around 35 dedicated helpers provide the needy with food and drinks at specified stops. “People are currently in high demand,” says boss Katharina Hofer. The sister organization Vinzi-Tisch is also looking for volunteers, says director Gertraud Scheichl. At the table in Lungau, however, the situation is different. “We are a permanent team that is particularly motivated,” reports manager Gerhard Langreiter. In addition to his regular team, he has a pool of volunteers who can help out if necessary.
