The United States Supreme Court has ruled it illegal to fire an employee because of their homosexuality. A real victory.
"Today we have to decide if an employer can fire someone just because they are gay or transgender. The answer is clear," the law "prohibits it," she said in a ruling. by a majority of six judges out of nine.
The Supreme Court of the United States thus granted, on Monday, a victory to LGBT + people by considering that they were protected by the mechanisms of discrimination at work, contrary to the position of the government of Donald Trump on the subject, recalls AFP.
In the country, the rights of sexual minorities have mainly advanced in recent years thanks to the courts, including the Supreme Court which, in 2015, legalized same-sex marriage. However, until Monday, only 22 states have banned discrimination against sexual minorities in the workplace. Elsewhere, it was up to the Supreme Court to get "LGBT people out of their second rank status".
The discriminated workers were able to count, during the debate, on the support of numerous associations, elected democrats as well as on that of about 200 large companies including Apple, General Motors and Walt Disney.
