Employees choked – Tyrol: Hospital increases security level after attack

Because he was denied access to the Reutte hospital because of the Corona rules, a visitor (41) choked a hospital employee. The incident happened in mid-February. As a consequence, the hospital is now increasing security measures and also wants to expand the alarm system.

It is sad in the pandemic, but not an isolated case: hospitals repeatedly report attacks by angry visitors on their employees. This is what happened on February 15th in Reutte in the Ausserfern region of Tyrol. A 41-year-old grabbed an employee (30) in a rage and choked him. Only after colleagues intervened and alerted the police did the suspected attacker flee. He was caught a little later. Security staff, pepper spray and alarm system “As a consequence, as a short-term immediate measure, we will deploy security staff at the locks and equip the employees working in the entrance area with pepper spray and similar means of defense for their personal protection,” outlines Administrative Director Helmut Ziegler the measures that have now been taken in the Reutte district hospital. An expansion of the alarm system is also planned, cooperation with the police is being promoted and de-escalation training is offered.
