THE CHEKING PROCESS – Leaving the Ministry of Labour, Elisabeth Borne welcomed the good results obtained on the employment front. Is right ?
THE QUESTION. Has the new Prime Minister obtained satisfactory results on the employment front? During her transfer to her successor Olivier Dussopt, Elisabeth Borne was pleased this morning with her record at the Ministry of Labor. “The youth unemployment rate is at its lowest for 40 years and never have so many French people had a job“, she said in particular, even considering that the “full employment is within reach“.

Remarks that resemble those made by the head of state, before his re-election. “We are at 7.4% unemployment, the lowest for 15 years, we are at the lowest youth unemployment for 40 years. We must continue“, he exclaimed on the set of TF1. A few months earlier, on Facebook, the President of the Republic had offered himself a small session of self-satisfaction, when announcing his youth engagement contract. Quoting the plan “1 young person, one solution», the investments of the State in various sectors of the future and the development of apprenticeship, Emmanuel Macron was pleased that «youth unemployment is lower today than before the crisis. It has also never been so weak since 2008“.
But are these claims correct? Are Élisabeth Borne and the President of the Republic right to welcome an improvement in the situation?
