Encanto, the fantastic Madrigal family: will there be a sequel to this huge Disney success?

With Encanto, the fantastic Madrigal family, Disney has once again hit hard. In this film, we find ourselves immersed in a mysterious place nestled in the heart of the mountains of Colombia where the fantastic Madrigal family lives in an enchanted house. This place, the Encanto, endowed each of the children of the family with a magical faculty ranging from superhuman strength to healing power. Only Mirabel has not received any particular gift… But when the magic of the Encanto is threatened, the only ordinary child of this extraordinary family will perhaps prove to be their only hope. With this feature film, released in December 2021, the studio has once again broken all records. Millions of spectators traveled around the world to see this jovial and family musical.

Proof of its success, its title song, Let’s not talk about Bruno, exploded the numbers even managing to beat Liberated, Delivered, the anthem of the Snow Queen, by climbing to fourth place in the Billboard rankings. And Disney could continue the fairy tale by deciding to make a sequel to Encanto, the fantastic Madrigal family. In any case, this is what the composer of the film seems convinced of, as he had confided to Collider. “I think there’s an appetite to explore the Madrigal family more, given the number of characters and the number of powers. And also, you have to remember where we leave the story, assured Lin-Manuel Miranda. Now there is a sort of fuller version of themselves. In which direction can we go now? The question is rather to know when it will happen. Not if it will…“

Encanto 2: what form to expect?

“Then we’ll see what form it takes. Will it be another movie? A series? Or a stage adaptation, with more time because stage shows are usually an hour longer than movies?wondered the composer of Encanto, the fantastic Madrigal family. We haven’t discussed what form it will take yet, but I want to say yes, I’m ready to continue exploring this family and all these characters: I love writing for Dolores and Camilo. I would like to write more for them. I would love to write more for Isabela too.
