End clap for the Smart EQ Fortwo croquignolette

“There it’s finished”, as Jean-Louis Aubert sang. According to the German site Smart Emotion, the manufacturer from across the Rhine Smart announces the closure of the EQ Fortwo order book from next April. However, to compensate for long delivery times, this vehicle will be manufactured until the middle of 2024 – its big sister Forfour has not been produced since the beginning of January 2022.

This end clap follows the arrival on the market of the new Smart #1, an electric SUV from the new joint venture founded by Smart and the Chinese Geely. Unlike the EQ Fortwo, the Smart #1 (315 kW) can accommodate up to five people and travel nearly 370 km.

Not so special editions

always according to Smart Emotion, the parent company of Mercedes has not planned a farewell limited series, as can sometimes happen. However, the news site noted that some dealers in Germany have decided on their own initiative to offer a special Final Edition version. For the occasion, the 150 Fortwo coupé and cabriolet are marketed at the prices charged in Germany (€31,740 and €28,695).

…using two stickers.

Some German dealers have planned a recognizable final edition…

This is the Prime finish with the Exclusive pack. To mark the difference, two Final Edition stickers have been affixed, one on the gear knob and the second outside, at the level of the mirrors. We’ve seen better as a limited series!

On the other hand, the brand’s Italian dealers were more respectful by announcing 250 Fortwo for the end of the series, in matt racing red or matt silver-grey. All are shod with Brabus rims of the most beautiful effect. 200 copies will be equipped with the 22 kW charger (€30,695), the other 50 with a 4.6 kW charger (€30,195).

The Smart Fortwo is planned, but in 2025 at the earliest. A hatchback version, aka the Smart #3, is expected to appear in 2024.
