End of an era – Stellantis closes traditional Fiat factory

Stellantis is closing the traditional Fiat plant for 1.3-liter Multijet engines in Bielsko Biala, Poland, meaning 486 employees will lose their jobs. This was announced by Wanda Struzyk, chairwoman of the Solidarity trade union, according to the Italian news agency ANSA.

The Bielsko Biala plant will close at the end of 2024. Some of the 486 laid-off employees could find work in other Stellantis plants in Poland, in Tychy or Skoczow. “This is the news we have feared for a long time. We will now also negotiate severance pay. The first meeting will take place on January 9th,” said the trade unionist. According to local observers, the dissolution of the traditional company, which began producing Fiat 126s in the 1970s, marks the end of an era marked by Poland’s growth the European and global market. The other Stellantis factories in Poland still produce the Fiat 600 and the Jeep Avenger. These models could soon be joined by another B-SUV model.
