Spotify stops production of its device as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay take hold in vehicles
Spotify has indeed announced the end of production of Car Thing, an accessory designed for motorists.
“ The goal of Spotify’s exploration of Car Thing was to better understand in-car listening and bring audio within reach of more users and vehicles. Due to several factors, including product demand and supply chain issues, we have decided to discontinue production of Car Thing units. “says Daniel Ek, the founder of Spotify, who prefers to stop the fees now.
If like many you have never heard of this device, Car Thing allows you to use Spotify on a vehicle via Bluetooth or via a USB or auxiliary cable. It must also be connected to your smartphone to retrieve your preferences and playlists.
The device is equipped with a screen and a navigation wheel allowing you to then navigate through your music or launch a playlist directly without going through your phone.
If Car Thing could have been of interest a few years ago, the device is now obsolete with the present of Android Auto or CarPlay in almost all cars sold by different manufacturers.
