A victory for our health. Since January 1, 2022, manufacturers are required to publish online the list of their products containing substances classified as endocrine disruptors by the National Health Security Agency (ANSES). Is this measure nevertheless really sufficient?
A “direct constraint”
Endocrine disruptors are substances released by human activity that interact with our hormonal system, which can cause diseases like cancer or diabetes. Asked by Europe 1, an endocrinologist approves the measure. “There is still a direct constraint on the manufacturer. If he sees a substance, he will try to avoid putting it in these products,” she says.
Nothing on the cocktail effects
On the other hand, for the NGO Future Generations, this obligation does not go far enough. “We asked for a pictogram that appears on the packaging, a bit like a pictogram for pregnant women on alcohol bottles. I imagine that before going shopping, you will not check the Internet for each product what it contains, endocrine disruptors or not “, observes its spokesperson, François Veillerette.
The manufacturers also do not indicate the cocktail effects of endocrine disruptors, that is to say the mixture of different substances to which an individual may be exposed during his life and which may or may not trigger a serious disease.
