Endometriosis unanimously recognized as a long-lasting disease in the National Assembly

It was a vote that won unanimous support. Two days after Emmanuel Macron’s announcements, the National Assembly voted, Thursday, January 13, a resolution carried by the deputies of La France insoumise to recognize as a long-lasting disease (ALD) endometriosis, from which one in ten women suffers. in France.

The motion for a resolution defended by the “rebellious” Clémentine Autain, Member of Parliament for Seine-Saint-Denis, invites the government to start a reflection “To write in stone” of ALD endometriosis. This should allow 100% coverage by Medicare.

The adoption of the text, which is not binding, by the 111 deputies present was greeted by standing applause from the entire hemicycle.

“A giant leap for millions of women”

“We can create a floor of rights for women victims”, said Mme Autain with a special thought for “Poorly paid women, for the precarious, for the poorest among them”, for which the disease is “Even more difficult to live”.

It would be “A giant leap for millions of women”, she added, with a “Ratchet effect” which would make it possible to standardize the management of this disease, which was discovered in 1860.

This gynecological condition, on which knowledge remains incomplete, is linked to the presence of cells of uterine origin outside the uterus, which react to hormones during menstrual cycles. Sometimes asymptomatic, it can also manifest itself in heavy periods and severe pain.

National strategy

The announcement on Tuesday by the Head of State, who launched a national strategy to fight endometriosis better known, diagnosed and taken care of, formed the backdrop for the discussion.

If Stéphane Viry (Les Républicains), author of a bill on the subject, denounced “A politician calculation” from Mr. Macron, Mme Autain did not wish “To argue”, regretting, however, the absence of a precise timetable or budget. “Communication will not be enough”, she warned.

For Lise Magnier (Agir ensemble), the motion for a resolution “Comes to provide an additional and necessary response” to the strategy of the Head of State.

The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, has refrained from making any “An ideological question”, but wondered about the modalities of unequivocal care when there are three major classifications of ALDs that exempt from fees, with treatment protocols that vary.

“Should 10% of women be classified in ALD 30?” I have no conclusion ”, launched the minister, who said he was confident in the “Method proposed by the President of the Republic: (…) the appropriation of the disease returns to those who suffer and who care ”.
