Lhe Council of European Energy Ministers, which is due to ratify “emergency measures” on Friday, is arriving very late. While the energy markets have been soaring for more than a year, the 27 will only act on three measures on which there is consensus: first the reduction in electricity consumption (the best way not to pay more), then a capture income from renewable energies which benefit from a windfall effect due to soaring gas prices, and finally a “solidarity contribution” on the super-profits of hydrocarbon energy producers (coal, gas, oil ). But the cap on the price of gas remains problematic and frightens, in particular, the Germans who fear supply disruptions from suppliers.
