In its latest publication, RTE again alerts the French to the probable activation of the EcoWatt red signal and warns of high voltage expected on the French electricity network this winter.

RTE reaffirms, in a new point communicated on Friday, November 18, that the period of vigilance began this autumn and that it should extend over six months, ie until the end of winter. In this regard, the manager confirms the high risk of tension, with recourse to the EcoWatt device (the indicator of the situation of the French electricity system) which seems inevitable.

The situation will be particularly tense in January

In most situations, RTE only foresees a few red EcoWatt signals for the next few months. It is, let us recall, the level of the device which attests to a very tense electrical system, used to encourage the French to monitor and reduce their consumption, and to prevent the risk of cuts. RTE specifies that the risk of outages can be reduced or even eliminated as soon as national consumption decreases by 1 to 5%.

The use of the device seems unlikely for the end of November. It should nevertheless increase during the month of December, to reach its peak in January, when the risks will be greater, even if they will depend on largely from the climatic conditions and the possible occurrence of a cold snap, even moderate “, tries to qualify RTE.

The situation should be a little less tense from the end of February. To date, RTE has data on the generation fleet which supports the hypothesis of improved security of supply. But everything will depend, here too, on the weather conditions and the progress of the work and maintenance of the nuclear fleet.
