After Russian oil, it is the turn of gas to see its price capped by the members of the European Union. The 27 agreed on Monday, December 19 to limit the possible purchase price per MWh to a maximum of 180 euros, under certain conditions. This decision should allow the old continent not to relive the scenario of August 2022: worried about their supply, the countries had then fallen into an escalation causing gas prices to literally explode to more than 300 euros per MWh (compared to around 30 euros , one year earlier).
However, the situations are not comparable. Although still high, gas has fallen back to around 110 euros per MWh in recent weeks.
