Free has just released the 4.7.4 update for the Freebox Servers (Revolution/Mini/One/Delta/Pop). Its main objective? Reduce energy consumption.

As always, just restart your Server box to apply this patch.

Free (finally) applies welcome changes to its Freeboxes

In a context where electricity is a precious and expensive resource, any savings are therefore good to take. This is why Free subscribers will probably want to restart their Freebox Server box today in order to apply the 4.7.4 update. , regardless of whether they are customers of a Revolution, Mini or Pop offer.

Indeed, this new firmware version corrects a handful of bugs (also on the Delta and One versions), but above all modifies a few elements on the other three versions in order to slightly reduce their energy consumption. We imagine that if the Delta and One do not take advantage of it, it is because they do not need it or already offer it.

Old boxes always updated

First of all, for a Server box connected in fiber, the DSL module will now be disabled. It is surprising that this was not applied earlier, but better late than never, it seems. Then, the EEE Ethernet mode (Energy Efficient Ethernet, 802.3az) is now activated by default, still on Freebox Revolution, Mini and Pop. This technique developed by D-Link should also slightly reduce the energy consumption of the latter, provided that the machine or other elements connected to the Ethernet ports are compatible with this standard. Remember that cutting off your WiFi when not in use (at night for example) can also be a good idea.

Regarding the fixes mentioned above, an XSS in FreeboxOS was first fixed. Finally, we note an increase in the maximum size of the cloud-init field in FreeboxOS, as well as the disappearance of a problem with the mapping of ports to the IPs assigned to VPN clients.
