LThe French are willing to make an effort, but not without consideration. An Elabe study for The echoesRadio Classique and the Institut Montaigne, published on Friday 1er July, reveals that 63% of French people say they are ready to reduce their energy consumption today to avoid the risk of shortages this winter and limit the rise in prices, reports Le Figaro.
In detail, 41% of them are willing to reduce their consumption “a little” and 22% “a lot”. “A majority of French people in all categories of the population say they are ready to reduce their consumption”, notes the study.
Concretely, the respondents plan to favor the “eco” program of their washing machine or dishwasher (82%), change their conventional bulbs for LEDs (79%). We then find the systematic unplugging of appliances on standby (72%), the reduction of heating in the home (67%), the drop in water temperature during showers (66%) and the reduction of car trips ( 64%). On the other hand, a minority of respondents is willing to use less air conditioners or fans this summer (45%).

Two prerequisites
To reduce their energy consumption, the French set their conditions. “Among the French people who would be ready to reduce their energy consumption, 90% would do so under at least one condition”, underlines the study. The conditions mentioned relate to the fact that everyone participates in this effort (population, companies, State, local authorities, etc.) and to the guarantee that prices do not increase. Finally, 15% of respondents say they demand that the effort be limited.
On the other hand, some French people (10%), in particular environmental sympathizers (17%), are inclined to do so without any conditions.
