Sales of solar systems increase by 146 percent

Solar cells are becoming increasingly popular among homeowners. They will install 159,000 photovoltaic systems on their roofs in the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 146 percent compared to the previous year. The strong enthusiasm is also a consequence of the corona pandemic.
The demand for your own solar system on the roof has skyrocketed in Germany. In the first quarter, 159,000 photovoltaic systems for private homes were put into operation throughout Germany, an increase of 146 percent compared to the previous year. This was announced by the German Solar Industry Association (BSW).
The BSW assumes that the demand for solar systems in Germany this year will see double-digit percentage growth for the seventh time in a row. In addition to private homeowners, this also includes other investors – including farmers who have solar systems installed on agricultural land. This year’s Intersolar trade fair, an important meeting point for the green electricity industry, opens in Munich on Wednesday.
According to the association, the number of new solar power storage systems will already exceed the total number of solar batteries installed in 2022 by the end of June. BSW General Manager Carsten Körnig attributed the solar boom to several factors, including the sharp increase in energy prices last year and a Corona aftermath: “Many homeowners invested a lot in their homes during the pandemic.”
According to BSW, the high demand from private homeowners is one of the most important drivers of the energy transition. Their demand for photovoltaic systems and solar storage more than tripled between 2022 and 2019, as reported by the BSW, citing data from the Federal Network Agency. “Almost all the signs continue to point to growth: solar systems are inexpensive, the number of skilled workers is increasing, the delivery situation is improving and market barriers are increasingly being broken down,” explained Körnig. The BSW intends to present more details and a more precise assessment of the development of the solar industry on Wednesday at the Munich trade fair.
