Engie and EDP Renewable win an offshore wind tender in Scotland

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Ocean Winds, the equal joint venture created by the energy company Engie and its Portuguese counterpart EDP Renewable (EDPR), has won a tender for the construction and operation of two new offshore wind sites in Scotland, public client Crown Estate Scotland reported on Monday.

The two projects won by Ocean Winds represent a total capacity of 2.3 gigawatts and are located east of the Shetland Islands. The first of these, with a capacity of 1.8 gigawatts, was awarded to Ocean Winds as part of a 50% consortium with Ireland-based company Mainstream Renewable Power. The second, with a capacity of 0.5 gigawatts, will be managed by the structure owned by Engie and EDPR.

The financial elements of these two projects have not been disclosed by the parties, Crown Estate Scotland only stating that the responses of the candidates to its calls for tenders revealed an average investment of 1.2 billion pounds sterling per gigawatt of capacity built, i.e. around 1.4 billion euros.

“Given the award of these two additional projects in the Shetland Islands, Ocean Winds now has a total portfolio of 6.1 gigawatts in Scotland, and a portfolio of projects of 14.5 gigawatts worldwide” , said Engie in a press release sent on Monday.
