England advance to first Euro final in history after defeating Denmark

By facing the surprise guest of this last square, the English had a golden opportunity to qualify for the first Euro final in their history, and they did not miss it. Gareth Southgate’s players, however, had to wait for extra time and a goal from Harry Kane to get rid of a Denmark team who played without complex (2-1).

Relive the match: England overthrow Denmark and join Italy in final

In front of nearly 60,000 spectators in a furious Wembley stadium (London), the English started their match very strongly before slowing down. Over the minutes, the Danes, who remained on three very successful performances, gained confidence and chained the opportunities. They even cooled the whole stadium by opening the scoring thanks to a superb direct free kick from Mikkel Damsgaard (30e). Despite this first goal conceded in this Euro, the English do not doubt for long and manage to get their foot on the ball.

They are then on the verge of equalizing a few minutes later but Sterling misses his face-to-face against Schmeichel. However, the equalizer arrives in the wake: after an overflow on the right side, Harry Kane centers and under pressure from Sterling, Simon Kjaer scores against his camp (39e). In the second half, in a match always very animated, the two teams surrender blow for blow but neither manages to make the difference. Head for extra time.

A Euro rich in emotions for the Danes

This is the moment when the English decide to accelerate against more and more dull Danes. But Kane, Grealish or Sterling stumble on a Schmeichel who achieved a great performance with nine saves. Finally the Danish defense cracked just before the end of the first period of extra time with Maehle hooking Sterling slightly in the penalty area. After checking the video, the referee whistles the penalty spot. He will be transformed into two stages by Harry Kane after a first stop by Schmeichel (2-1, 104e).

Much criticized for his ineffectiveness at the start of the Euro, Kane is however four goals in five games in this competition. This goal is worth gold since it is the one that sends England to the final of the Euro. The Danes, exhausted by a tournament rich in emotions, will no longer manage to make the English tremble.

From the discomfort of Christian Eriksen, who narrowly escaped death in the first match against Finland, to the qualification snatched against Russia (4-1), through the demonstration against Wales (4-0) and the victory against the Czechs (2-1), they will have known everything. Except the final therefore, which will pit England against Italy on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London.

“It’s a major performance. We had to go deep dig, it’s the first time that we conceded a goal in the Euro, greeted Raheem Sterling at the end of the match. We were able to equalize and we knew we should be patient. With the legs we have in the team, the aggressiveness, the power, we knew we could surpass them and we got the penalty at the end. “
