Entered illegally – Syrian (14) found severely hypothermic in the forest

While hiking in the Bärengraben in Rosental, a Carinthian becomes aware of cries for help and finds a 14-year-old who has entered the country illegally in the forest. The 61-year-old immediately sets the rescue chain in motion.

A hiker (61) from Faak am See became aware of calls for help from the forest in the Bärengraben in Rosenbach on Sunday. The man immediately went to investigate and came across a boy who was sitting in the forest with severe hypothermia. “He pointed to his knee and couldn’t go any further on his own,” says a police officer. The helicopter couldn’t land. The hiker immediately made an emergency call. But the operation turned out to be difficult because of the weather. The crew of the Libelle 1 police helicopter was unable to land due to the strong gusts of wind. The Villach mountain rescue service was alerted because of the steep, snowy and wet terrain. “The injured man was roped down with the stretcher and transported out of the forest to an open area. There the 14-year-old was able to be taken to the Klagenfurt Clinic by defrosting the C 11,” the emergency services report. Police investigate According to the police, the boy is a Syrian who entered the country illegally. “The boy probably came to us in Carinthia via the Karawanken. Investigations are ongoing,” a police officer continued. The 14-year-old was traveling alone.
