Entry from the corona risk area: the federal government is probably planning new rules

Entry from a corona risk area
Federal government is probably planning new rules

Since November, most federal states have been requiring travelers from corona risk areas to be quarantined for ten days. After five days, however, those affected can do a corona test. Now the GroKo is apparently planning changes.

According to a newspaper report, the federal government is planning to change the rules for entry from corona risk areas. It is planned that travelers from risk areas outside the Schengen area would have to present a negative test for the coronavirus before starting their journey to Germany, reports the "Bild", citing the draft of a new corona protection regulation from the Federal Ministry of Health. However, proof of immunity or proof of a corona vaccination would also be accepted.

According to the "image" in the draft, anyone who cannot show any of this should not be sent to Germany. When entering from risk areas within the Schengen area, a test result, vaccination or proof of immunity must be available to the health department 72 hours after entry. With the new rules, the previous obligation to quarantine for travelers from risk areas should no longer apply.

According to the newspaper, it is still unclear when the regulation will be issued. The draft stated that this should be done in the course of January.

Ten days of quarantine

Since November 8, most federal states have had the rule that travelers from corona risk areas generally have to be in quarantine for ten days. After just five days, however, those affected can do a corona test in order to end the quarantine early if the result is negative.

The Robert Koch Institute currently classifies all of Germany's neighboring countries as risk areas. The decisive factor here is the so-called seven-day incidence of more than 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week. However, this value has now been clearly exceeded in Germany as well.
