They both reached the threshold of 100,000 signatures in less than six months, a condition for the Conference of Presidents to decide to follow up on them. But these petitions are quite opposite: one targets anti-hunting organizations, the other asks for more control of hunters. To the Senate now to examine them.
The president of the hunters calls for heavy actions
Registered on February 15, the petition of the president of the hunters Willy Schraen on the platform of the Senate had gathered Monday at the beginning of the afternoon more than 100,780 signatures.
Aiming at anti-hunting activists, Willy Schraen calls in this text for “a parliamentary inquiry” to shed light on the functioning of associations “acting openly against legal activities” and “the end of the tax reduction for donations” to associations “conducting actions of obstruction, violence, intrusion and degradation in the name of the animal cause”.
The threshold having been reached, the Senate will study the petition
The High Assembly has undertaken to examine the petitions filed on its site, which have collected more than 100,000 signatures in six months. The Conference of Senate Presidents can, for example, decide to create a control mission, include a bill on the agenda, debate in public session, etc.
The next meeting of the Conference of Presidents is scheduled for Thursday.
The petition of an anti-hunting collective also examined
The Senate has already set up a mission in November on the issue of hunting safety, in response to another petition, launched by the collective “Un jour un chasseur”, created after the death of a young man killed by a hunting shot. This group calls for days without hunting and stricter rules concerning safety, in particular on alcohol, shooting near homes and gun control.
The joint control mission on the security of hunting has already carried out numerous hearings, including that of Willy Schraen and Mila Sanchez, co-founder of the collective “Un jour, un chasseur”.
It is continuing its work and heard Massimo Buconi, national president of the Italian hunting federation, on Monday. It should deliver its conclusions in mid-September.
