Environmental bonus counted: the end of e-car funding is certain


Buyers must first be able to afford an e-car. The state helps with the environmental bonus, which is often and gladly claimed, at least up to now. Now it is finally clear how things will continue: If you want to drive an electric car, you have to dig deeper into your pocket – at best.

The environmental bonus when buying an e-car is being revised: buyers are allowed to From 2023 at the latest, they will no longer be looking forward to as much money as before. For electric cars up to a list price of 40,000 euros, the federal government’s subsidy share will drop from 6,000 to 4,500 euros. Up to a purchase price of 65,000 euros, there are only 3,000 euros from the state for pure electric cars.

As had already become apparent, From 2023, the funding for plug-in hybrids will also be completely abolished. If you want to combine a combustion engine with an electric car, you will have to pay for it yourself in the future. But it’s also over for companies: According to information from the Handelsblatt from government circles, the environmental bonus only wants to be continued for private individuals. Tax benefits for company cars remain unaffected.

However, the new subsidy rates are subject to reservations: the environmental bonus will only be paid out until a Upper limit of 2.5 billion euros overall has been achieved (source: dpa via Handelsblatt). There is no date, but the end is certain. The traffic light coalition wants to continue the funding in general, but once the funding pot is empty, it’s over. This could also be the case before the originally planned end of 2025.

The environmental bonus had – especially since the increase in mid-2021 – an esignificant share in the rapid success of electric cars on the German market. Due to the tense delivery situation, it is now hardly possible to get one of the popular electric vehicles in time. Finance Minister Lindner had even called for the complete premature end.
