Environmental damage – truck driver forgot handbrake and crashed into brook

A truck crashed into the Plainbach in Bergheim at around 2:15 p.m. on Monday, the police reported. The driver stated that he ran the engine and forgot to use the handbrake. The result: the fire brigade had to set up several oil and diesel barriers over a length of 500 meters to prevent environmental damage in the Plainbach.

The accident caused diesel and oil to leak into the Plainbach. The barriers erected by 20 men from the Bergheim volunteer fire brigade should remain in place until the next heavy rain, on the instructions of the district administration. It has not yet been possible to clarify on site whether the accident caused environmental damage.
