(Boursier.com) — The Euralpin Lyon-Turin Tunnel (TELT) takes a significant step forward in the construction of the new Lyon-Turin railway line with the signing of the contract for the supply of pyrotechnic products and on-site manufacturing of explosives for the CO8 operational site.

The cross-border section of the new railway line spanning approximately 67 km will connect Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to Bussoleno in Italy, where it will connect to the historic line. The main work of this section requires the digging of a 57.5 km twin-tube base tunnel between Saint-Julien-Montcenis and Susa. The TELT company is the contracting authority for this ambitious project.

In 2022, the work of lot CO8 “Construction work on the base tunnel from the attacks on the Villard Clément portals” was awarded to a temporary consortium of companies including Implenia, NGE GC, Itinera and Rizzani De Ecche.

After having already signed two contracts for the lots of the CO6 and CO7 operational sites in September 2022, the EPC Group is entrusted with the supply of pyrotechnic products and the on-site manufacturing of explosives (using Mobile Explosive Manufacturing Units, UMFE) for a 3rd lot, the CO8 operational site.

The explosive excavation will involve approximately 4km, or more than 400,000 m3 of rock to be removed. This project will involve several UMFEs. These services, with an expected cumulative amount of more than 3 million euros, will extend between March and October 2024.
