Epic Games: a partnership signed with The LEGO Group for the creation of a metaverse for children

One of the terms that we have been reading for several months almost everywhere, all the more so since Facebook (Meta) has expressed interest in creating one, that’s good the metaverse. Well, the concept is a bit of a catch-all to designate a persistent virtual world like Fortnite already is, but that does not prevent large companies from looking into the subject and investing in this direction. This is also the case this Monday of Sony Group Corporation and KIRKBI, up to $1 billion each. And justly, last week, The LEGO Groupwhich is owned by the latter, has signed an agreement with Epic Games… which already evoked the creation of a metaverse.

This partnership in the long term between The LEGO Group and Epic Games therefore aims to build an immersive, creative and engaging virtual space for children of all ages, qualified as “family-friendly”, which would therefore put in the hands of our toddlers tools allowing them to assert themselves as creators while allowing them to have fun in safety. In short, imagine all the possibilities already offered by the bricks LEGO in reality be transposed into a game claiming to be a metaverse. Yes, the giants that are Minecraft and Roblox can already tremble, especially when we see the success of Fortnite.

Niels B Christiansen, CEO of The LEGO Group, said: “Children love to play in the digital and physical worlds, and move fluidly between the two. We believe there is huge potential for them to develop lifelong skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication through digital experiences. But we have a responsibility to make them safe, inspiring and beneficial for everyone. Just as we have protected children’s rights to safe physical play for generations, we are committed to doing the same for digital play. We look forward to working with Epic Games to shape this exciting and fun future. »

Tim Sweeney, CEO and Founder of Epic Games, said: “The LEGO Group has captured the imaginations of children and adults alike through creative play for nearly a century, and we are thrilled to come together to create a space in the Metaverse that is fun, entertaining, and made for kids and families. »

As the metaverse evolves, it is reshaping the way people meet, play, work, learn, and interact in a virtual 3D world. The LEGO Group and Epic Games will combine their vast experience to ensure that this next iteration of the internet is designed from the ground up with the well-being of children in mind.

And to make it clear that child safety is essentialthe two groups agreed on three ethical principles within virtual spaces which may arise from this partnership:

  • Protect children’s right to play by making safety and well-being a priority;
  • Protect children’s privacy by putting their best interests first;
  • Give kids and adults tools that put them in control of their digital experience.

The LEGO Group already having partnerships with nintendoin particular via the range dedicated to Super Marioand large licenses such as Star Wars, there is enough to dream of a platform bringing together all these worlds made of bricks. While waiting to see what will come out of all this, you can find all kinds of sets LEGO for sale on Amazon.
