We’re proud to be part of this thriving community of developers, publishers, gamers, and creators who made the past year so special to us. There are now over 230 million Epic Games Store PC users, an increase of 36 million from 2021. That’s a total of 723 million cross-platform Epic accounts. In 2022, the number of daily active users peaked at 34.3 million while the number of monthly active users increased from 62 million to 68 million compared to last year.

Publishers and developers introduced 626 new PC titles to the store in 2022, bringing the total number to 1,548 games. That’s more than previous years, and it represents a sizable increase over the number of games offered in 2021. Gamers spent $355 million on third-party apps, an 18% year-over-year increase. Including Epic’s games, this amount reaches $820 million in 2022, down 2% from 2021.

Free games from the Epic Games Store had another great year in 2022. Many developers and publishers joined us to give away 99 free games worth $2,240. Among them, 70 free games broke their peak concurrent user record on PC, with an increase of 25 times their all-time high on average! Last year, nearly 700 million total free games were obtained by players, allowing a wider and new audience to try these titles.

Launch of the self-publishing tools and the IARC classification system!
We are excited to announce the release of our self-publishing tools 1.0, from a closed beta release. With these new tools (which you can find on Epic’s Developer Portal), our catalog of games and apps will grow exponentially. These tools make it easy to add eligible PC products directly to the Epic Games Store and showcase them to massive audiences globally. Partners using self-publishing tools will continue to benefit from our 88%/12% revenue share advantage. Alternatively, they can use their own in-app purchase solution for their products.

The Epic Games Store is the best place to publish your game and ensure that the parental controls appropriate for your region are applied thanks to our new IARC integration. This global solution gives publishers easy and free access to ESRB, PEGI, GRAC, USK and ASK age ratings, all from our Developer Portal.

In 2022, our development team has been hard at work improving the quality of life for our players and developer partners. Here is a retrospective of the most important new features:

  • Added ratings and polls based on player reviews allow players to share their feedback and opinions on current games directly with the Epic Games Store community;
  • Improved search to find games faster in the store and your library;
  • Improved navigation in the store and your library, with more and better filters;
  • Added folders and bookmarks to the library to help organize your collections and get you to your favorite games faster;
  • Direct link between the games page and the library to go in one click from the product page to that of the game in your library and download or play it in the blink of an eye;
  • Improved shop listings:
    • Top Selling, Top Rated, Most Played, and Most Wishlisted Upcoming Games.

  • Launched cross-platform tools for PC as part of Epic Online Services to enable our partners to ensure that players of different PC versions can play together, regardless of purchase platform;
  • Advanced parental controls and the ability to have limited accounts to provide a shopping experience tailored to young players and allow parents to focus on security, content access, privacy and purchasing permissions.

What does 2023 hold for Epic Games Store users?
Our number one priority this year is launcher performance, but we also intend to evolve the Epic Games Store in many ways. The 2023 goals include (but are not limited to):

  • Improved launcher performance focused on faster loading times, as well as attention to end-to-end user experience across the entire launcher;
  • Support for live services and products, and registration services offered by third-party publishers;
