Eventing rider Georgie Campbell falls and dies

The eventing tournament in Bicton is overshadowed by a fatal accident: Georgie Campbell falls with her horse at an obstacle. Despite quick treatment, she cannot be saved. The animal, however, remains unharmed.

British rider Georgie Campbell has died after a fall at the eventing tournament in Bicton. This was announced by the umbrella organization British Eventing. The 36-year-old had a fatal accident at the International Horse Trials in the county of Devon, it said in a statement. After her fall at obstacle 5b, Campbell was examined by medical professionals but could not be saved. Her horse Global Quest was examined by veterinarians on site and was able to be brought back to the stable unharmed, it was further stated.

“In order to respect the privacy of the family during this extremely difficult and sad time,” the umbrella organization said, “no further details about the accident will be disclosed.” The competition was canceled after the 36-year-old’s fall. Campbell was considered a very experienced rider who had taken part in over 200 tournaments and won six of them. She leaves behind her husband Jesse, whom she married in December 2020. The 34-year-old New Zealander is also an event rider.

As reported by Sky News from England, Campbell learned to ride at the age of two. She started out as a show jumper and was very successful. She later turned to eventing. As a teenager, she was selected for the junior team in Great Britain and made her five-star debut in 2009. She later competed regularly for Great Britain in the Nations Cup teams.
