Equinor: towards the joint acquisition of Triton Power

Equinor and SSE Thermal, a Scottish energy distribution company, have announced their intention to buy the electricity company Triton Power Energy Capital Partners (ECP) for a total amount of 341 million pounds sterling shared equally between the buyers.

Triton Power notably operates the Saltend power station in East Yorkshire (northern England), ie a plant with an installed capacity of 1.2 GW operating a conventional combined cycle turbine (CCGT) running on natural gas.

Equinor and SSE Thermal plan to upgrade the plant to use up to 30% hydrogen from 2027, with the ambition to eventually move to 100% hydrogen.

The transaction should be finalized in September.
