(CercleFinance.com) – Equinor and SSE Thermal, a Scottish energy distribution company, have announced their intention to buy the electricity company Triton Power from Energy Capital Partners (ECP) for a total amount of 341 million pounds sterling. shared equally between buyers.
Triton Power notably operates the Saltend power station in East Yorkshire (in the north of England), a plant with 1.2 GW of installed capacity operating a conventional combined cycle turbine (CCGT) running on natural gas.
Equinor and SSE Thermal plan to upgrade the plant to use up to 30% hydrogen from 2027, with the ambition to eventually move to 100% hydrogen.
The transaction is expected to close in September.
