Eramet strengthens its CSR commitment

(Boursier.com) — Eramet strengthens its CSR commitment with the launch of the first audit by the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance. Eramet has chosen the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) to assess the CSR performance of its operational sites. This international standard, objective and independent, makes it possible to certify as responsible the audited activities, “according to the most demanding criteria”. After a self-assessment carried out at the end of 2022, Eramet is undertaking the independent assessment of its Eramet Grande Côte Opérations (GCO) site in Senegal. The launch of this external audit by a third party will allow Eramet to count “among the first mining groups to demonstrate its public commitment to the IRMA process”.

Finalized in 2018, the IRMA benchmark establishes an international standard for assessing the performance of mines in operation from a social and environmental point of view. This standard was developed over a ten-year period through a public consultation process involving more than 100 entities and various organizations, including customers, downstream end users of mining products, NGOs, trade unions , communities and mining companies. Its fair and multi-party governance (NGOs, international unions, principals, buyers, host communities, representatives of the financial sector, mining companies) ensures the legitimacy of the initiative and guarantees the level of requirement of the standard as well as the transparency of the mine certification process.

Eramet has been committed for several years to a voluntary process of progress which places corporate social responsibility at the heart of its strategy. It is reflected in its Purpose. The launch of this external audit marks a new important step in the approach undertaken by the group. The criteria assessed by the Initiative cover all the aspects retained by Eramet in its CSR roadmap in terms of workplace safety, relations with communities, environmental protection, human rights and governance. By launching the evaluation by IRMA of its activities in Senegal, Eramet is exposing itself to comments from stakeholders in a process of progress and encourages a broad commitment from members of the mining community, workers, NGOs, its customers and investors. After this first external audit in Senegal, Eramet aims to engage all of its mining sites in this independent verification process by 2027.
