The Turkish General Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a social media campaign asking for international support in the forest fires. Among other things, it is about “creating worry, fear and panic” in the population and “inciting the people to hatred and enmity”. The state news agency Anadolu reported.

There are also investigations into allegations of insulting officials, insulting the president and degrading the Turkish state. All offenses for which there have been prison sentences in the past.


In view of the devastating fires, millions of users on Twitter and Instagram had asked for international help under the hashtag #HelpTurkey in the past few days.
