In view of the high number of corona cases, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (67) has announced another lockdown. From April 29 to May 17, all operations that do not have a special permit will have to close, as Erdogan said in Ankara on Monday. The interior ministry will announce the exceptions. Travel between cities is only possible with permission.
Due to the sharp rise in the number of cases, Turkey had already tightened the corona restrictions at the beginning of the month of fasting in mid-April. For example, cafes and restaurants had to close and switch to delivery services. There are also night curfews.

On Sunday, the number of new infections every day was around 38,600 cases, lower than the days before. In one day, 347 people died related to Covid-19. The country has around 84 million inhabitants.
Turkey started its vaccination campaign in mid-January and is mainly injecting the vaccine from the Chinese manufacturer Sinovac. 4.5 million doses of Biontech / Pfizer vaccine are now also available. The Russian vaccine Sputnik V is also soon to be produced in Turkey. (SDA)
