Eric Dupond-Moretti wrapped up, maybe that’s a detail for you…

Eric Dupond Moretti at the end of the Council of Ministers of February 8, 2023.

Winter’s Tale

With your mind completely occupied with pension reform and your growing obsession with the charismatic Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt, you had somewhat forgotten the existence of Eric Dupond-Moretti? First, know that you are not alone in this situation. Know above all that he is well. Still keeping the seals and indicted for “illegal taking of interests”, the former lawyer participated, on February 8, in the traditional Council of Ministers. For the occasion, he had even brought out a rich winter outfit deserving of some explanation.

Today’s special

This photo allows us, first of all, to see that the departure of Jean-Michel Blanquer from the government did not sign the complete disappearance of the flat cap, or flat-cap, among the ministers. Eric Dupond-Moretti proudly wears the accessory. In detail, we note that his cap is made up of a visor and eight fabric panels. As such, it deserves the name “newsboy”, because it was for a long time the headgear of choice for young boys delivering newspapers in the United States or Great Britain.

Dare Josephine

To stay away from the cold, Eric Dupond-Moretti took care to tie a navy blue scarf around his neck. Since this isn’t particularly surprising or interesting, let’s go back in time to educate ourselves a bit. Did you know that Napoleon Bonaparte was also a fan of the scarf? He even offered many dating from ancient Egypt to his wife, Josephine, who continued the collection to the point of madness. It is said that she accumulated, in a few years, nearly 400 rare scarves.

Size matters

Note the presence, behind the Minister’s back, of what is called a martingale. What is it about ? The harness strap preventing the horse’s head from being raised too high? No, not that martingale. So of the system claiming to ensure a certain profit in games of chance, according to principles based on the calculation of probabilities? Neither. On a coat, a martingale is a set of two tabs buttoning over each other and placed at the waist in the back of a garment. Let’s say it more clearly, it’s pure coquetry.

Nonchalantly

How, finally, not to notice the presence behind the minister of a sedan of function? This reminds us that the Keeper of the Seals has a passion for cars and that he bought himself a beautiful Maserati in 2013, which we still talk about today. It also reminds us that, six months ago, the engines of all ministers’ vehicles were running empty during ministers’ councils and that it took a public blacklisting by journalists for the practice to finally stop… We had almost forgotten that too.
