Ericsson: Bringing 5G to Eastern Kentucky

(CercleFinance.com) – Appalachian Wireless recently chose Ericsson to upgrade its network with 5G capabilities.

Ericsson will upgrade Appalachian Wireless’ network to a new container-based dual-mode 5G core network for autonomy, and provide radio access network (RAN) solutions.

Together, Ericsson and Appalachian Wireless will replace existing equipment and build a new cloud-native dual-mode core network for 4G and 5G.

This new network will allow Appalachian Wireless to provide advanced 5G services to Appalachian customers.

“We trust Ericsson to provide equipment and services that will enable us to better serve our customers and bring 5G to our communities,” said Mike Johnson, Deputy General Manager of Appalachian Wireless.

‘ The world is becoming more and more digital. Residents without broadband access risk being socially and economically disadvantaged,” added Eric Boudriau, vice president, Regional Carriers business unit manager, Ericsson North America.
