Actor Erol Sander and his wife, Caroline Goddet, take stock one year after their reconciliation: “Our love was never gone”.

Actors Erol Sander (52) and Caroline Goddet (45) have known each other since 1996 and have been married since 2000. You have a bad and partly public separation from 2017 behind you. But they got back together and announced the love comeback in early 2020. “Today it is very uncomfortable for me to talk about this phase because I am uncomfortable that something like this has happened to us of all people,” says Sander im Double interview with “Bild am Sonntag”. “I would like to cut this time out of my life. But of course that is not possible,” he continues.

“Of course it was the worst for the children”

The parents of two sons would have liked to save their children the public war of the roses. “But the fact that there was a happy ending is, in spite of everything, also good news,” says Goddet. “It was of course worst for the children. With what I know today, I can only advise everyone: if a family crisis should arise, jealousy and egos are bad companions,” warns Sander. Those involved should therefore “think first, take a break, maybe even keep their distance – and then act,” he advises. Anything that happens out of pride or anger is a mistake and only destroys.

And the couple has learned something else from the crisis: “We no longer google each other. If you start with that, you break down,” says the native French and niece of the US film director Oliver Stone (74). “We both got such a cold shower that I really don’t have to read everything about us anymore. Best friends and family know the truth and don’t judge us,” continued Goddet.

“Our love was never gone”

And what about the love between the two? “I noticed that hate and love are very close to each other. Both feelings are so strong that they hardly differ in their intensity. Precisely because our love for one another still existed, the argument between us was so hard,” explains Goddet. “Our love was never gone,” confirms Sander.

“We had our happy ending like in our own film,” says Caroline Goddet, summarizing the happy turn of events. Sander knows that this is really something special: It doesn’t happen very often, “that couples get back together after a crisis like ours. I hope, in any case, that people treat us to that.” They got the curve and are grateful for it, she adds.

Erol Sander returns as Commissioner Özakin

And there is also a little comeback to celebrate professionally. On Saturday (May 29), after a three-year break, Erol Sander can be seen again in his star role as Commissioner Mehmet Özakin in the crime series “Istanbul Murder Commission”. In the new episode “Decision in Athens” (8:15 pm on the first), Commissioner Özakin goes on an unofficial assignment abroad to help his ex-wife (Idil Üner, 49) find her missing partner and his kidnapped daughter .
