  • The ESC 2023 will not take place in the Siegerland of 2022.
  • The war situation in Ukraine prevents the event from being planned.
  • Replacement could be found in London.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the ESC annually, has decided against allowing the 2023 contest to take place in Ukraine. Contrary to the usual tradition, next year’s event will not be held in the winning country of this year’s staging.

Will the ESC 2023 take place in the UK?

Instead, talks are now being held with the BBC as to whether it is possible to hold the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Great Britain. The United Kingdom finished second in Turin 2022, making it the first reserve candidate.

Ukraine should still play a big role

Nevertheless, it is planned that the winning country Ukraine will be adequately represented in the show next year and should not only be considered as a participating country. According to the EBU, this topic should have top priority in talks with possible alternative locations.

The Ukraine was already the winner of the Eurovision Contest in 2004 and 2016 and accordingly hosted the ESC in the following years.
