Seven cities have been shortlisted to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in the UK.

Where exactly will the ESC 2023 take place? British broadcaster BBC has now chosen seven shortlisted cities: Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield, reports the portal “Deadline”.

As the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, Ukraine should actually host the next ESC. Due to the war with Russia, the runner-up, Great Britain, has taken over.

Winning city will be announced in the fall

There, 20 cities had expressed an interest in hosting the event. The seven cities now shortlisted will now go through a second phase to come to a final decision. The criteria for the decision are the capacity of the city, the availability of resources or general experience in hosting large events. The winning city will be announced in the fall.

Great Britain has already hosted the ESC nine times – but most recently 25 years ago. This year British musician Sam Ryder took second place. The BBC has announced that the 2023 competition will be a “true reflection of Ukrainian culture while showcasing the diversity of British music and creativity”.
