Singer Isaak is overjoyed after his victory in the ESC preliminary round. Above all, he thanks everyone who called on his behalf.

After his victory at the German ESC preliminary round in Berlin, singer Isaak (28) thanked his fans. On Saturday night he spoke up with a video.

Thanks for the “mega alert”

In In the short clip in which he appears to be lying in bed, Isaak explained to his 20,000 Instagram followers: “I still haven’t really realized it.” It was “absolute madness” that the callers made such a “mega alarm”. He “didn’t expect” that his day would turn out like this. “You got me there, I want to say thank you for that.” Now there’s a lot coming up – he doesn’t know exactly what it will be. In any case, we are now going to Malmö in Sweden. The grand finale will take place there on May 11th. “ESC, I’m coming,” said the man who will represent Germany this year. Finally, the “Always On The Run” singer sent his supporters a big smooch.

The singer, who comes from Espelkamp in East Westphalia, won both the jury vote and the audience vote. A total of nine singers and groups fought on Friday evening to be allowed to travel to the ESC in Sweden. Isaak, who was previously relatively unknown, also prevailed against prominent competitors Max Mutzke (42) and Marie Reim (23). After the preliminary decision, the winner was overjoyed. “That was my goal: to go on stage and just be completely with myself,” he says quoted on the NDR ESC homepage. “And I do what I am and who I am – and I don’t try to please people. Because if I’m enthusiastic about it myself, it’s easier to inspire others too. And I think I have that unbelievably well implemented. I’m super proud of myself. From the tips of my toes to the top of my hair, I’m so ready!”

His wife has a name with an ESC connection

After his victory, his first path led to his biggest fan in the audience – his wife Loreen. The fact that she has the same name as last year’s Swedish winner (40) is perhaps a good omen. However, the couple didn’t celebrate excessively: As Isaak emphasized in the Instagram video, he only drank a little alcohol and was still “mostly sober.”

According to NDR, the German ESC candidate is already a father of two. His full name is Isaak Guderian. Music has long been his great passion: he was already busking while he was at school. In 2011 he took part in the casting show “X Factor”. Ten years later, he won the digital talent show “Show your Talent” during the Corona pandemic. His vocal repertoire ranges from melancholic ballads to powerful arrangements. “Music is the only refuge where I can be who I am,” NDR quoted him as saying. “Everything is allowed here. No drawers, no system, no order. Pure emotions, a playground that is not just for children. And everyone can understand it – whether it is in their language or not.”
