He had been looking forward to the ESC final for two years, now Duncan Laurence has to cancel his appearance due to a corona infection.

The Eurovision Song Contest next Saturday (May 22nd) will have to do without Duncan Laurence (27) in the final: The musician who brought the contest to the Netherlands with his victory two years ago has tested positive for Corona, as stated in a press release from the event. Laurence should have presented his winning title “Arcade” on stage during the finale. “Duncan is very disappointed, he had been looking forward to it for two years”, the organizers quote his management.

As his management further announced, the singer was tested positive for Covid-19, but has only had mild symptoms so far. Since he has to be in isolation for at least seven days, he cannot attend the event in Rotterdam. Nevertheless, the fans do not have to do without Duncan Laurence entirely. As it is said, he will appear “in a different form” on the show.

Duncan isn’t the only one the virus is preventing his participation. It was also announced on Wednesday that a member of the Icelandic band Daði og Gagnamagnið had tested positive for the coronavirus. The band had then decided to withdraw from all appearances at this year’s live shows, as they only want to perform as a group.
