Essonne: two crocodiles locked up for 20 years in a basement

These two dwarf crocodiles, 2 meters long, respectively 45 and 30 years old, are reclusive in two basins, the narrow surface of which allows them neither to swim nor to move. According to The Parisian, the ex-girlfriend of the real owner of the crocodiles therefore found herself alone to take care of the two beasts. “It’s been eighteen months that the situation has persisted,” she was moved in the columns of the newspaper, evoking “a heartbreak” to separate from Mr. and Mrs. Crocodile. Initially, his ex-companion was legally authorized to keep these two animals at home. But faced with “very precarious conditions of detention”, the association Animal Protection Action took up the case, to get the two reptiles out of their confinement. Among the findings at the home of the ex-couple: one of the two bins has not been cleaned for months.

A sanctuary in Germany

For the time being, the Évry prosecution has requested the placement of the two crocodiles. According to The Parisian, Animal Protection Action had found a place for them in a sanctuary in Munich, Germany. However, Benjamin was finally authorized to open a breeding establishment for non-domesticated animals, which will have to meet certain security conditions. “I’m not sure that taking them to Germany is a good solution. They are very old beasts, sensitive to stress, ”reacted the person concerned to the newspaper.
